UPDATE: November 4, 2012 - just received another set of these filters - again, not a genuine Vornado filter which is fine with me - it's also the BestAir-brand I have received for the past 2 or 3 winters and they are fine. Also, I notice NO stinky sweat odor like another reviewer complained about. I have no idea what's up with that!

These filters are not genuine Vornado filters, the box says RPS Products/BestAir, but these filters seem to be spongier and more absorbent than the genuine Vornado filters I purchased a couple years ago. I used this BestAir-brand filter last winter also and one set lasted 3 months before it lost it's wicking ability. It's a perfect fit (you get 2 filters in a box, one for each side of the humidifier).

I have used these filters for 6 years and have never had a problem. In the winter in Oregon I keep the unit running 24 hours a day for about 5 months. I replace the filters every 2 months or so as they do harden with the water deposits.

My first batch stank, literally. Right out of the package they smelled like the inside of a boy's locker in gym class (arrrggghhh). I wrote the seller, and they cancelled the order, I suspect to avoid negative feedback, but my feedback would not be negative. I managed to clear up the odor as follows: I put the two filters in my work sink and poured a cup of Clorox over them, and let them sit a day. Then I rinsed them out the same way. They smelled a bit "Clorox" fresh at first, but I didn't mind it (my wife DID). After less than a day, there was no odor at all. They ABSORB better than the original Vornado filters, and they will keep you busy refilling the tank, but that what you WANT them to do, put plenty of humidity into the air. I purchased a second batch, and they had no odor at all, so perhaps the bad stock has been used up or returned. For the price, if you get a "stinker", spend a day or two Cloroxing them and they will be fine. I'd give FIVE stars except for the first batch I had to work on. The seller did the right thing refunding, but didn't need to cancel the order. I have noticed a trend on Amazon where sellers cancel orders on small items (not worth returning), to avoid negative feedback.
